Basement Office – Almost done (using TrafficMaster Allure)

I was flying through the flooring, thought I’d take a second to show how it was going. I’m using this TrafficMaster Allure flooring from Home Depot – amazing stuff!

Hey, I have to put that stuff down in my basement. Do you have any tips for me? I bought a really good cutting knife and one of those rulers that go both horizontally and vertically. I know what you’re saying on the boxes being heavy. I carried 10 of those darn boxes up two flights of stairs into my house, then down two flights of stairs into my basement. I had to have a nap afterwards.

Not really – it’s honestly the EASIEST DIY thing you could ever do. It took me about 2.5 hrs to do this entire room. I did my parents recroom with the allure tile – which required slightly more effort with the alignment and the tiles were thicker, so harder to cut.
As long as you have a good heavy-duty box cutters (with extra blades) and that Tsquare, you’ll be fine.
Let me know how it goes!

Now that your flooring has been in for awhile can you tell me how it’s holding up? I was looking at doing a darker color but comments have been that they show scuff marks ~ what was the color you used and have you seen any marks or dents? Thanks for your time!

Looks great – the floor holds up fine under normal activity. if you plan on dragging something big and heavy across it – it will show marks – but then so will wood or laminate. i put some felt coasters on the bottom of all my stuff (just like i do for my wood floors) and it’s fine.
    no problems with dents

    which color did you use?

    it’s the hickory finish…

The majority of complaints about this product is when it is installed in basements. The temperature swings cause the pieces to expand and contract so they warp. Also, concrete + moisture + trafficmaster = mold.

The only other common problem is that the product marks up easily.

Further, I seriously doubt this would last 25 years, but it is cheap, looks good, and is easy to install.

I’m looking to do my Living Room/ Dining Room/ Hall with this. I have a Condo which is on a concrete slab. The old carpet is up now for about a month and I’ve checked for any moisture and have none. Any comments or suggestions from anyone on this idea? Thanks.

    Looks great.

I want to use it in a kitchen and pantry area.

Since each plank only connects to each other, how does the side or edge that is not connected to another plank stay in place and/or not lift up?

I am installing it in rooms that have molding trim on the walls at the floor level already in place. If I don’t use anything to hold it down on the edge that is not connected to another plank, is that a problem?

    Thanks

sorry for the late reply – but basically since it’s all stuck together – the last row is still a part of the entire floor – and isn’t going anywhere. that and i hid the edge under the baseboards

  13. mcmartii says:

make sure the floor is clean first. don’t want any pebbles under or it will cause a bump, and not look good…
long hallway might be fun to install – but no worse than anything else!

hehe – thanks – full basement build to the Guitar Hero albums… when flock of seagulls hit – i had the right frame of mind to tape ;-)

@clearsailing i would lift your trim and put the edge under to help keep it down…
